Joe Vitale has always wanted to be a writer. The drive hit him hardest in his teenage years when he was captivated by the series "The Twilight Zone". He was confident that whoever was behind the stories must be some sort of god-like creature. He was a bit disappointed when he got the chance to meet Rod Serling in person, because he realized the phenomenon was written by a human. It inspired him, though. He knew he could write just as well as a fellow human.

People ask Joe Vitale quite often why he is so successful. His answer is always the same. It's his drive and enthusiasm. No matter whether his interest at the time is a person, place, or thing, he'll follow it to the end. He never knows where the end will land him, but he follows his heart anyway.

One of Joe Vitale's interests was in a man named Bruce Barton, who was the founder of BBDO. He wanted to learn as much as possible, so Joe researched him for two years. Afterwards, he wrote a very successful book "The Seven Lost Secrets of Success", which has since been printed approximately 20 times. He didn't follow Barton with the expectation of writing a book. The book was simply a result of the passion he followed.

"Follow your passions and make a million bucks this year?" No. It doesn't usually work that way. Joe Vitale is no exception to that rule. He, like most people, had to struggle a great deal in the beginning. For a while, he even became homeless. He took whatever job he could find just to feed his wife and himself. Never did he give up his passion for writing, though.

So you've dug yourself a hole. The key to getting out of it is to figure out exactly what's holding you back. Joe realized his family was holding him back. None were writers or avid readers. None understood his drive. It took moving 2,000 miles away to finally overcome his self-worth issues and dig himself out of poverty.

Each of us has a reason why we hit an income ceiling. It's usually an unconscious reason. Until you figure out what your reason is, you'll be stuck. For Joe, he realized his ceiling was his father's railroad worker income. What would it say about his father working countless hours for little pay if Joe worked very little for a large payoff? Only after he overcame that mental battle was he able to make real wealth.
