The town along Turkey`s coastline that is considered to be the most `European` of the resourt town is Marmaris, which is located in a fairly large resort area that is an active tourism sentre in the summer. When you come across the north eastern Mediterranean shore, it is actually the first town along the well-known `Turquoise Coast`. Marmaris is a port city. `Mimari as!` Suleyman the Magnificent exclaimed upon seeing the completed stronghold he commissioned and disliking it; local storytellers claim the name Marmaris stuck.it means `kill the designer`.

Shopping in Marmaris can be a real treat. Fantastic deals can be found on items as diverse as jewellery, ceramics, leather and carpets with some of the best bargains coming at the Carsi Market located in the Ottoman Castle which features over 200 shops and a flea market open seven days a week, including a wonderfully lively Thursday market where locals come to sell fruits and vegetables along with fabrics and clothing. But in order to enjoy the Marmaris experience, one must be prepared. Vendors can be pushy and annoying. As a rule, it is expected that shoppers bargain with them over prices, except in the larger shops. An already inexpensive product can be haggled down another 30 percent with a bit of persistence. Marmaris is known to deal in knock-off merchandise. great prices on expensive items should be a red flag that it is not a real item. You may still want to make the purchase, just like in Turkey, these fakes are good quality!

Whether you`re craving something international, or you`re dying to try some of the local food at the Turkish Restaurant Lokanta, Marmaris has hundreds of different places for you to eat, no matter what your craving or your budget. If your fickle family can never agree what they are in the mood for Don` will solve the problem with an all inclusive international menu.Along the way, you must not miss all the traditional Turkish delights such as doner kebabs and seafood meze dishes.

The savage and non-indigenous evenings in Marmaris often encircle Bar Street by the waterfront. Partying until 4am is common. Most restaurants are open all night to cater to the late night partiers. Some of the best places to go are Davy Jones` Locker, with dancing all night long and affordable cocktails, Vagabundo, a club right on the beach where the staff dance up on the bar, as well as Cheers, right on the beach as well, with a drag act and places to sit outdoors away from the heat.
