Semiconductors are the divided class of matters. At first this unique class was found in the 1890’s but more completely it started to be researched just after the First World War in Europe and in Soviet Union. The first successful experiment was carried out by the Russian physicists in 1923. They proved that semiconductors may be utilized to accelerate fluctuations. There was no opportunity to create some sophisticated devices as igct. First transistor was created in Bell’s laboratory in 1949. That event influenced the quick development of semiconductor devices. The intense research of the features of semiconductors was started at the same time.

It sounds a bit strange but physicists didn’t want to carry out researches of semiconductors for a long time. The first person that decided to get more knowledge about semiconductors was Abram Ioffe – soviet scientist. This genius offered many methods of usage of semiconductors and every modern system works on these principles. There are electron conduction and hole conduction developed by semiconductor systems. These features can be modified by usage of adding some admixtures or modifying temperature. To get the characteristics which are required for the research or appropriate use of device some admixtures are added to semiconductors.

The most important semiconductor systems which are utilized in technologies are diodes, transistors and thyristors that are based on materials with electron and hole conductions. The broad application of semiconductors started not so long ago but nowadays they are truly widely used. There is a possibility to convert almost every type of energy into electric power by usage of semiconductors. With help of electricity they may develop heat and cold. Semiconductors execute the main functions in lots of different devices: atomic batteries, quantum generators, processors and even simple radio receivers. Engineers can’t do without semiconductor rectifiers, changers, disconnectors and amplifiers. The use of semiconductors instead of tube systems allows to reduce the overall dimensions and weight of electronic systems. The analogue devices are not equal if we speak about their reliability and power. Tube falls behind.

There are a lot of different systems nowadays, which significantly ease our life and all such inventions appear just thanks to the semiconductor systems.

Such newest semiconductor devices as diodes are broadly utilized today. The history of power semiconductor devices began in early 60’s when the American scientists developed the first system that worked on usage of some semiconductor substances.
