Unfortunately you can't really tell if you are getting better or not without someone giving you constructive critique. It can also be hard to pick up on mistakes you are making when you yourself have no experience. Look for videos that have a segment where the instructor demonstrates how to incorporate all the moves into a dance or routine. This will help you make up your own routines.
