Along with the great summer weather comes numerous outdoor jobs that have to be done. It takes a lot of work to keep your lawn and the exterior of your home looking it's best. Some things can be done seasonally, but many jobs must be done on a weekly schedule.
You especially have to work on your lawn regularly to keep it looking green. If you've had a harsh winter, there may be patches that need to be re-sown with grass seed. Using a quality fertilizer can help your grass grow thick and healthy. And, weed killers can give your grass a manicured look.
Wood chips and plastic sheeting can be used in flower beds to minimize the need to weed. It can also help the soil to retain moisture and reduce the amount of watering. And, your trees, bushes and shrubs will need pruning and trimming.
To protect your deck it should be given a thorough clean a minimum of one time every summer. Leaves that are stuck in crevices can stay dampand cause rot and should be cleaned out. A pressure washer is the easiest way to completely remove any dirt that is trapped. If the surface is worn, refinish the deck and add a water resistant coating.
While solar lighting fixtures are virtually maintenance free, they do need to be cleaned. Any solar panels need to be wiped off to assist them work at their best. And, you should remove the glass globes and clean them well to allow the light to shine through better.
It's a necessity to check the exterior of your home for cracks or loose siding that will allow the wet to seep in and cause rotting. Siding that has begun to stain or mildew can simply be cleaned with soapy water using brushes. But, for stubborn stains you can buy special cleaners.
If you have a swimming pool the water needs to be checked weekly. Keeping the balance of chemicals in your pool at the recommended level will maintain the water free of bacteria and clean for your family. And, the heat of the summer will make the bacteria and germs to grow faster so don't skimp on this task.
Keeping your outside jobs carried out on a regular schedule can actually save you time over the long term. There're also numerous ways to eliminate some jobs, like installing automatic sprinklers. And, the less work that you have to carry out, the more time you can spend doing your most loved summer activities.
Once the season changes move your focus to jobs inside. But before you do, don't forget to winterize the pool. An easy way to cheer up tired rooms is to add a fresh coat of paint or a couple of cheap area rugs.
