Fishing allows you to connect with nature and appreciate the things around you. It gives you a feeling like no other especially when you've made a catch. As you go on, you'll be widening your horizons and wanting to catch bigger fish.

Salmon are popular among fishing enthusiasts because of their size and their taste as well. British Columbia, Canada has become known as among the popular places for catching salmon. If you're thinking salmon that's about a foot long and a few pounds, think again because this is a place where trophy salmon thrives.

Pacific comes in five different types salmon king/ chinook, pink/humback, red/sockeye, silver/coho and chum. Those looking for trophy salmon or big catches are bound to be fishing for only two types. King salmon or Chinooks can weigh up to seventy pounds while Silver Salmon or Coho are smaller, but can still weigh up to twenty pounds.

With salmon making their way back to their spawning places at about the same time each year, it's all about timing. Coming at the right time increases your chances of getting a trophy salmon. Come to British Columbia during the months of late June to mid September to get the best catch possible.

Making sure that all sea life remains protected, British Columbia like other provinces in Canada has a set of regulations for you to follow. The number one thing that you will want to be aware of is the fishing limit. Depending on the area that you will be fishing in there will be a set limit according to the variety of fish you catch.

Fishing licenses are necessary when it comes to salmon fishing. This is especially true if you are seeking out trophy salmon. Don't worry since these are easy to come by. With about seven hundred vendors of fishing licenses you will be able to purchase one from any sporting store, lodge, resort and even selected department stores.

If you want to keep the salmon that you catch (which I'm sure you will) then don't forget to get a salmon conservation stamp as well. This will allow you to keep the salmon that you catch, though there is a limit. It is usually four for non tidal areas.

Packaging the salmon which you catch is part of the regulations if you aren't transporting your fish whole. Check with the lodge or resort that you will be staying with for this kind of services. Most will provide you with vacuum sealing or similar packing methods.
