Boating and fishing go together like ham and eggs, they are great.
The fishing sport and the boating recreation activity are becoming more and more popular for people to take off up to the lake or down the river to enjoy their favorite fishing hole.
These safety tips can make your fishing and boating experience more enjoyable, take note of them while preparing for some great fishing.
1. Don't put an engine on your boat that is too big for it. Check the maximum engine rating allowed and never overpower your boat.
2. Slowdown when you are near other boats. Don't operate too close to swimmers and other fishermen. Make sure you pay attention to any warning signs that are posted on the waterways. Treat the waterways just like you do the highway. Drive safely and courteously.
3. The position of your boat, while fishing can make a safe and pleasurable fishing experience. Orient your boat to follow the outline of a point, matching the angle for the best cast. For each situation and location you would need to position your boat differently. Always keep track of where your boat is so that it can be seen by other boaters traveling through the area.
4. Make sure you double check your checklist and have all of your fishing and boating needs before you leave the dock. The checklist should include enough fuel and battery power to last you your whole trip and especially make sure you have an anchor.
5. Your checklist should include safety equipment. Double check that you have flares, a first aid kit, at least one oar, a fire extinguisher, and a life vest for each fisherman on your boat.
6. As you are traveling always watch where you're going. Prepare your graphs and flashers before operating your boat. Make sure you're paying attention to other boats approaching or people who might need your help. Driving a boat is like driving a car. Keep focused on those around you.
Your fishing and boating experience is sure to be a success if you follow these safety rules. Once you've experienced a nice outing, you will have the confidence to come back for more.
