You're planning your wedding and need flower girl dresses. Do you want a white flower girl dress or ivory flower girl dresses? Pink flower girl dresses or a combination?
What styles are "in" for flower girl dresses this season?
You have several choices to look for your perfect flower girl dresses. You can:
- Order dresses from the same manufacturer in the same color at the same time as the bride's maids' dresses to match;
- The typical way - shopping until you find them and likely taking the child and parent along with you; this often isn't a joyful experience;
- Wait until the last possible minute, panic and have to settle for whatever is available;
- Shop easily on line and send a message to each family telling them which style and color to order and that they need to get them ordered now - or order them yourself so you know they are ordered in time.
- Shop on line, make up your mind and order them yourself to be sure that the right style and colors get ordered and that they actually DO get ordered in plenty of time.
What flower girl dress styles are available?
The flower-petal filled dress. This is a dress with a sheer skirt that is "filled" with flower petals in the color of your choice. These dresses often come with flower pins for the waistline to coordinate. One very special thing to consider is that you can EASILY change the color of the petals in the skirt by exchanging them for your own unique colors. Any florist can make up a pin for the sash for you, too. Consider combining colors for a really rich, unique look!
The ballgown. This is a fitted bodice to the natural waistline and a full, gathered skirt below with the "Cinderella" silhouette. It is always elegant and tasteful for little ones! Older girls, unfortunately, may balk at wearing this style complaining that it is "babyish" though they may love it again when they are older. It is also not the best style for extra-fluffy girls.
The ballgown. This is the classic silhouette of frothy skirt and fitted bodice. (Hint: the flower-petal filled dress usually has this shape). This is always a perfect choice for little ones but older girls may think this style is too "babyish" and pitch a fit. The "pick up" skirt is actually a ballgown that is modified with layers of the outer fabric "picked up" in places to create a different effect.
