The first date can make anyone nervous- but with the right mindset, and a little confidence, any first date can be successful. Of course this takes some special learning and tactics, but the results payoff in the end for those who just can't seem to "seal the deal."
The number one cause for lack of confidence comes from one's self-image. If you think that you aren't the best looking, the one with the best personality, or even able to carry on an able conversation, your confidence will fall as a result. The solution is simple: find what you don't like about yourself, fix it, and then cope with what you can't fix- the sooner the better.
Showing one's confidence isn't always as simple as it sounds. Confidence can usually be seen with three different human characteristics- how laid back one is, how talkative, and how outgoing the person is. If you possess even one of these characteristics, the outlook is good that your confidence can be improved by focusing on your strengths and improving them. Of course the overall goal is to improve yourself all around- so don't focus on just one trait.
Although confidence is always a good thing, it can often be confused with arrogance. If you want to impress your date, you will do good to avoid arrogance at all costs. If you appear overly confident or self centered, then it is highly likely that your date will start to lose interest. After all- who wants to carry on a conversation with someone who only cares to talk about their own life, without showing interest in the other person?
Another common flaw in confidence comes from one's living arrangement. If you live with your parents, have a small or dirty home, or have a home full of animals that give foul odor to your home, your confidence is much likelier to be lowered. In these cases, it's best to go on a date with the mindset that if the person truly is the "one" for you, they would see past any shortcomings you may have in your living arrangement.
Confidence also can be created by going on a date doing something that you have done before. All too often, the first date is a new experience for those who lack confidence. If you happen to go to a new restaurant and order something you don't like, it may give the wrong impression to your date- who may think you are too picky or unwilling to try new things.
Most importantly, one should note that it is not always a bad sign that the date you were hoping to impress didn't turn out to show the same feelings. In many cases, this is just another chance to start over with someone completely new. And as dating goes, the learning experience will only give you better odds next time around.
Above all else, always try to have fun on the first date, and any dates following should you leave a good impression. Always try to exert confidence- even if you have to fake it. As you become more experienced in the matter, confidence will come naturally- all you need is the time and experience in which to find it.
