There is nothing new about a legal plan service; in fact they were in Europe back in the thirty's but they have started to become more commonplace in mainstream America. Now most legal firms are able to offer this legal plan service to all sorts of people and businesses and as the interest continue to grow, other types and levels of legal service plans are introduced. Legal plans work by providing basic coverage and attorney services for a membership, or a prepaid fee that is usually paid monthly or yearly; by paying the membership fee, you have access to an attorney and their services, which without the plan you would have to pay, in some cases, a substantial fee.
Although a great idea, they are designed as a preventative measure so representation in court would still be a service that was a chargeable service but hopefully using the legal plan it won't get that far. Prepaid legal plans also have the benefit of supplying the client with free meetings regarding any legal issues they need to resolve. There isn't generally a limit to how many times you can contact your attorney this way so as each consultation is free, this service provides great value for people that would probably have to pay each time they contacted their lawyer or not use on at all.
Other services are also included in legal plans and normally a free 'Last Will and Testament' will be included, with yearly updates and many plans will also write a letter or a make a call on your behalf. If you consider how often a dispute can be cleared up when a lawyer intervenes you can see one of the obvious benefits to this service. In addition, you will also have coverage for contract or document review, where your attorney will review documents, such as agreements or sales contracts, and answer any of your questions.
Of course if you require your attorney's representation in court or another matter that is not included in the legal services plan, an extra hourly fee will be chargeable but you can expect a reduction in this fee. The number of available legal services plans is increasing as more people decide to use this wonderful legal option with varying levels of cover for both individuals and businesses. However there are even more specialized legal plans available, such as one designed just for truck drivers; a great way to join is to see if you workplace offers a plan as an employee benefit package because many do and in some cases, you can join for free or reduced cost.
Closing
There are some limitations and prepaid legal services are not designed to solve pre-existing or ongoing legal issues because the focus is on preventative care and access to an attorney for a consultation. Major legal issues that require any type of ongoing legal representation would not fall within the remit of a legal services plan but you would no doubt come to some arrangement with your attorney over such a matter A legal plan service is a way for middle class Americans to have the access to attorneys that used to be the province of the wealthy; having a plan is a great way to help keep yourself out of legal trouble with preventative assistance, but it won't solve all of your legal problems.
