16th birthdays are momentous events that are important in every girl's life. Also known as sweet sixteen, this means that she is no longer a child but not quite an adult either. This transition stage between the two is one of the best in every girl's life which makes celebrating it a very good idea.

1th birthdays aren't celebrated to such an extent by all though. Men don't celebrate their 16th birthdays, preferring to reserve their celebrations for the 21st. And not all cultures consider the 16th year to be the coming of age year for girls. Others prefer to celebrate 18th birthdays in a similar fashion.

Previously, people celebrated their daughter's sixteenth birthday as a sign that were now all grown up and available for marriage. In the past, women were encouraged to marry as early as 16 years old. If you were 27 and still had no husband, you were deemed to be a spinster for life.

Today, though the tradition of celebrating a girl's 16th birthday still continues, the manner of celebration has changed. Also, sixteenth birthdays are no longer celebrated so that celebrant can find a husband. Instead, these are celebrated merely to mark the transition period from childhood to pre-adulthood.

If you're worrying about the potential costs of holding an extravagant 16th celebration, you need not worry. You don't have to spend so much money because there are other ways to celebrate this time in your life.

You can do so many other things on your 16th birthday celebration. You can have a nice party or just an intimate dinner with people close to you. There are even several themes to choose from for your party!

Other memorable birthday ideas are spending your birthday in the bowling alley or skating rink to have some fun with friends. Another intimate celebration is the slumber party.

No matter how you choose to celebrate your birthday, be sure that you have clean fun. Remember, you may be turning 16 years old, but there are still some things you are not legally allowed to do-like drink alcohol. You might end up with men in uniform crashing into your party.
