With business cards being cheap or even free, a Virtual Assistant's business card should be a major marketing tool. It should be something that people want to keep.

Design a 'sticky' Business Card that the recipient never wants to give away!

You could cover them in food obviously but let's think about the blank side. It does not cost very much to get the blank side of the card printed and this on its own can make the card useful to its recipient.

When I think back to the cards that I have kept the following come to mind:

    * My chiropractor used a card with a calendar on the back. Not only did it make it easier to book a repeat appointment but when I felt stiff I would use it to check when I had last visited.

    * Put this card into your briefcase or purse and you have an instant calendar. No need to get out the paper or electronic diary, I could see it through the clear plastic wallet in my purse.

    * If you do accounts, you can have the important dates for submissions on the back of the card. If you also put a note in your diary to contact them well in advance of these dates you may well pick up SME's who up to now have been struggling on their own.

    * A special offer. I used a hairdresser for years. Suddenly she gave me a card that said on the back I would get a 25% discount if I visited on certain days. I changed my normal appointment to one where I would get a discount. These were obviously times when she was not busy.

Now let's look at ideas that Virtual Assistants could use on their cards.

Your company ethos is important as are your specific services. Put them on the back of the card and prospective clients will know exactly what you can offer.

Make a money off offer or a free half hour of work so they can check out your services.

If you are a VA specialist in any area, list hints and tips that will help your client deliver what you need to do your job.

Put a good testimonial on the back of your card, it will be worth its weight in gold.

    Be Inventive

I used to get so frustrated finding small offices on huge industrial estates. One client gave me a card with a map of how to find his office. He said he was losing money because people could not find him, now he earns more as he is the only one they can find.

Quotes or even jokes that relate to your business

There is the old joke about the IT Consultant in a hot air balloon that did the rounds some time ago, that would make a change from the more serious quotes. The best idea I saw was a Marketing Seminar where the main points to be taken away had been printed on the back of the lecturers card.

What is the aim of all this - to get your prospect to keep your card and so remember you.

When the time comes to empty out your briefcase, purse or just a pocket full of business cards that you got at a networking meeting, if you are like me you give them the once over before deciding what to do with them. They all go into my CRM database BUT the ones with the interesting information then go into my card book and not the bin. If I am looking for a service I go to the card book and start there. The calendar goes into my purse etc and is used most days.

Make the back of your card stand out as much if not more than the front. Buy in small quantities and start a trend where clients and prospective clients automatically turn your card over to see what gem you have come up with this time. The memorable Virtual Assistant get the work.
