    Polyester Hammocks
Hammocks are a great way to relax and spend some leisure time basking under the sun. Although hammocks have been in existence for some time now, it was only with the introduction of new age fabrics like polyester that hammocks became truly portable and resistant to adverse weather conditions. Today, hammocks are available in two basic fabrics (polyester and cotton) and both polyester and cotton hammocks have their unique advantages and disadvantages.
    Polyester Hammocks
Polyester hammocks are inexpensive compared to cotton hammocks and are made from highly durable polyester fiber ropes. Polyester hammocks are available in a variety of colors and do not have a tendency of loosing color after prolonged exposure to sunshine or water. People that are looking for brightly colored hammocks to compliment the décor of their homes or gardens prefer the amazing variety of colors available in polyester hammocks. Polyester is naturally resistant to biological agents like mildew and mould and does not have a tendency of rotting/degrading like cotton.
Polyester hammocks are not as comfortable as cotton hammocks and even high quality polyester cannot match the softness and ‘breathability’ of natural cotton fiber. Although advances in technology have meant that high quality polyester is as comfortable as cotton, people still prefer cotton hammocks when it comes to comfort. It is important to remember that the quality of the polyester used plays an important role in deciding how comfortable it will be, high quality polyester hammocks are almost as comfortable as cotton hammocks.
    Cotton Hammocks
Cotton hammocks require special care and should not be overexposed to sunlight and moisture. In addition, cotton hammocks are susceptible to biological agents like mildew and mould, and special attention has to be paid to ensure they are not exposed to water and rain. Although polyester hammocks are available as rope hammocks, cotton hammocks are also available in fabric form also.
Instead of being made from cotton ropes, fabric hammocks are hand woven and are considered the ultimate in rest and relaxation. In fact, modern day hybrid hammocks are usually a combination of cotton and other new age materials and offer both the comfort of cotton and the durability and strength of synthetic fibers. It is important to remember that cotton rope hammocks do have a tendency of sagging after a period of time, and cotton hammocks are not as firm as polyester hammocks after a few years.
    Taking care of hammocks
If a hammock is being used indoors, then the hammock does not require any special attention apart from being cleaned regularly. Fabric hammocks should be washed as per the manufacturer’s instructions to preserve their color and texture. On the other hand, a hammock being used outdoors should be protected from dirt and moisture; and if possible, not be exposed to direct sunlight over a long period of time. Although polyester hammocks and hybrid hammocks are resistant to direct sunlight, there is a possibility that they might loose color due to prolonged exposure to sunlight.
