When Sydney Johnston has a live eBay audience she loves to ask a really easy question. And every time everyone gets it wrong. It has to do with perceptions. Those that work successfully with Internet business are those that can think outside the box.

The degree of success you experience in virtual business is going to be dependent on how you see things.

Sydney Johnston has been around on eBay since the inception just a few short years ago but has never viewed it as most of the rest of us do. The question she asks her live audience's sound pretty darn obvious " What is eBay?" But the question is designed to stimulate discussion.

What she is after is feedback from the audience as to their perception of eBay and what it brings to the table and most often peoples minds are limited as to it possibilities.

But that's her point. She wants her audience to see the endless opportunity eBay brings to the table as one of the top five traffic sites on the internet.

She is guiding her students to recognise eBay as much more than just a site selling goods via auctions.

It was when Sydney Johnston herself started selling high end books to book enthusiasts that she became aware of the real advantages of eBay.Sure she had sold books and made some healthy profits but just as importantly she had built a list of eager book buyers whom she could contact again.

This is what makes those with enterprenurial spirit stand out from the crowd. They see eBay as the start and not the end of the sales funnel. The majority of the people selling on eBay see it as a place to sell single items and no more.

However those who grasp the principals of marketing have latched on to the much wider opportunities that exists on such a highly popular site full of buyers.Opportunites abound for the savvy switched on opportunist.

For marketing specialists eBay is not an end in itself it is simply a way station. A busy, well trafficked way station that can provide them with endless customer lists that can then be worked off the site.

It almost goes without saying everything is in the follow up which few on eBay either know or choose to ignore.

For the succesful eBay enterpreneur the sale is just the first in a line of transactions of developing a customer relationship.

Success on eBay is about tying products together and expanding the newly formed relationship.

If I sell a set of diamond earings what items will my customer be looking for next maybe the matching ring and bracelet

To find success on eBay you must see that intial transaction as a gateway to the customer. Think how you can enhance the customer experience and you will be filling your pockets with wads of cash.
