The first hurdle to overcome when setting up an eBay business is deciding what sort of items to sell first.

When i'm asked about what to sell on eBay by a newbie when first getting started on eBay I find like most people they stumble not really knowing where to turn for help and advice and are overwhelmed by the number of options available to them.

With that in mind how is the new and ever keen eBay business owner expected to come up with an original idea, haven't they all been taken?. I find that the easiest way is to look at what you enjoy doing most you know the sort of things hobbies and interests that sort of thing. After all wouldn't it be much more fun selling stuff and dealing with people who have your interests?

A good way is to find out how the market has reacted in the past and you can find out which products have sold before in your specific niche. After all there is no point in selling a product where their is not enough demand to make a decent living at is there?

When I was first looking for ideas I started talking to family and friends and asked them what they liked to buy. At the time my sister was planning a hiking trip and was looking to buy a two man tent. When I did some research for her I found dozens of others looking for similar things.

When you visit a book store or a shop which sells speciaility magazines you can find books on almost any subject you can imagine. Try asking the owner which topics seem to be the most popular at the moment and you will come up with some great ideas.

It's possible you won't have come across it yet but eBay also provide information as to what is selling well in their 'What's Hot' section on the eBay Seller Central platform. Although this might help the thought process you should also consider that many others will use it for research.

One thing to remember you are very unlikely to find one unique product that is selling well and you should look to diversify you product range as you build your eBay business. After all you can't make a living selling surfboards in the middle of winter or snow shoes in August can you.

As of now you are still pretty much at a loss what to sell but just start applying some of these ideas and it won't be long before you are up and running.All I recommend is you build your business slowly and don't rush in to things until you have done enough research.
