She founded "Yes to Success" to help people create true success and prosperity, enjoy deep and lasting happiness, and realize their biggest dreams. She went from hosting seminars of 10 participants to hosting seminars with thousands of participants in a very short time. Debra was becoming a regular on radio and television talks shows, and she was even in negotiations for her own television talk show. On the outside, it seemed she had it all. She was very successful, but success doesn't necessarily equal fulfillment, as she would soon realize. When her first child was born, Debra saw first-hand that passions can change in an instant. She decided to leave the rat race and join the world of stay at home moms. Some people might say she threw her career out the window. Debra Poneman didn't see it that way, though. Debra joined a popular work at home company called Melaleuca, a business that prides itself on allowing moms to fit work into their family rather than fitting family into their work. Instead of sleeping night after night in a lonely hotel, she was tucking her children into bed. As her children got older, Debra Poneman still dreamed of doing what she had always wanted to do, writing an inspirational book. One night, her son brought her one step closer to that reality. He simply asked her to watch a televised talent show with him. Debra wasn't particularly interested in watching a talent show, but she loved spending quality time with her kids, so of course she said yes. What she saw wasn't just any old talent show. It was the first season of the highly successful reality TV phenomenon, American Idol. In no time, she was hooked. As luck would have it, Debra's friend Marci Shimoff had also fallen in love with the show. Marci is most well known for her Chicken Soup for the Soul books. In phone call after phone call, Marci and Debra discussed the excitement of the show and how upset they were when something didn't go their way. One night it hit them: they should write "Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul." American Idol is all about living your dreams and never giving up. That's exactly what Debra was doing her entire life. When contestants are booted off the show, they try again the following year. When Debra's life was on hold for her children, she kept the inspirational book idea in the back of her mind. Through her inspirational book that told the stories of several of the American Idol contestants, Debra was able to show the world how average people can live out above-average dreams.
