The last hurdle to freedom. Statistics show that around fifty percent of drivers fail the first try. So you've got 1/2 a chance of passing, right? No way - why leave it up to luck? Read on for some time-tested tips and tricks that will boost your probability of zooming out of the DMV parking lot (at speed limit, of course) with a brand-new license. These are the ingredients for success: - Practice - Knowing your state's traffic laws - Knowing you can do it! All of these come with time; before anything else, make sure to get yourself enough driving experience so that things like parking, turns, and intersection procedures become second nature. Knowing when to yield and when to take the right-of-way is especially important. Once you feel calm behind the wheel, you're halfway there. One of the first things your DMV examiner will do on test day is check your lights, brakes, and signals, so make sure these are working well at least a week before you go in. If there are any malfunctions with your car, you won't even be able to take the exam. And if you're planning to take a car to the test other than the one you're mostly used to driving, get as much practice as you can with the new vehicle, since it may maneuver a bit differently. Watch out for "unique" driving habits you may have picked up while practicing! Things like lazy turns, incomplete stops at red lights or stop signs, or not driving with both hands on the wheel.
