Once upon a time Benidorm was a sleepy coastal town located in the Alicante province in Spain. With water on one side and the Sierra Helada and Puig Campana Mountains, to it's back, Benidorm sees beautiful weather, year round.

It is known for it's constant sunshine. Any time of year you can find perfect vacation weather in this region. Since people have started figuring this out, the once quiet area has become a booming tourist mecca. Once it really started catching on, more companies moved in, and now the area is filled with large hotels, and family and adult entertainment venues for the masses.

If sightseeing is more your cup of tea, there are tours available through the Costa Blanca where you can stop at many of the other local towns including Altea, Denia, Calpe, and Javea.

Getting to the area is not too difficult. Tourists interested in visiting Benidorm can fly into the Alicante Airport, which is a short distance of 43 kilometers away.

Benidorm Past and Present

This region used to be full of agricultural and fishing interests. The people lived off the land and the water in a village environment. Its origin goes back to the Arabs, as does much of Spain. They gave the area its unique name.

If you are looking for the historical portion of Benidorm, you should go to the center of the bay where you will find the old village. The area around the church is the most enchanting and will give you a feel of the past while the other things you will see, such as new restaurants, shops and discoteques will show you the progress to the present.

The Enjoyment of Benidorm

There are many fun activities to take part in when you visit Benidorm. Once it was realized that the area was a goldmine for tourism, one smart businessman snapped up as much of the area as he could and started marketing it as the premier vacation spot. People came, and enjoyed the restaurants, nightlife, and the other things the city had to offer. They also found more possibilities with the beaches and areas they could bring the whole family to enjoy, so they started to bring their children along. City officials made a note of this and started to add attractions that were more family oriented such as theme parks, animal parks and water parks. Here are some of the places to enjoy:

Aqualandia Water Park - This is a location that is a lot of fun and is located just inside the city. For most visitors it is a quick walk or bus ride.

Mundomar Park -If you prefer to be up close and personal to animals, this is the park for you. This park will let you see a wide variety of marine and tropical forest animals.

Terra Mitica- A new place to play. This theme park was built in 2000 as a new option of recreation for visitors.

When you want a complete taste of Spain as well as entertainment for all the members of your family, Benidorm is the location you have been looking for.
