Not only will having these plants make you more comfortable, they will also keep other pests away from your garden that could harm other flowers and bushes. It is always healthier to use natural methods of repellent against plant pests rather that using chemicals.

Garlic - Garlic repels many types of pests. It helps keep your roses safe, and will also keep mosquitoes away. If you plant garlic in your garden and lawn, you will be very surprised at how quickly your bug problem goes away. Garlic chives is an alternative that works similarly.

Onions - The strong smell of onions repels the same basic types of insects as garlic (meaning most insects). It is a good alternative to planting garlic.

Mint - Mint is easy to grow and is a great natural pest repellent. It will naturally spread out, but you have to be careful that it doesn't take over your whole garden.

Lemon Balm - Lemon Balm is actually a mint, but it has a pleasant lemony smell. It is one of the best natural mosquito deterrents. If you need to take their bug repellent qualities to go, you can simply break off some leaves and rub them onto your skin. Again, you need to be careful with this plant because it grows quickly and can be invasive.

These plants are just a few of the many natural pest repellents, neem oil is another natural pesticide. A good rule to keep in mind to know which ones will work is that any plant with a strong odor tends to keep insects away. Luckily for humans, the lemon scent is the most pleasant to us, while repelling insects more than the other smells.
