When it comes to which kind of patio barbecues you want for your own backyard you have two basic choices. You can either go for one that uses gas or one, which uses charcoal. But both kinds have their advantages and disadvantages and the one that you choose will be down to your own personal preference.

Of the two types of barbecues, that one now can have installed on the patio at home the gas version is becoming ever more popular over the charcoal ones. Below we now look at just what some of the advantages and disadvantages are from owning either version that we mentioned above.

    1. The gas version is becoming increasingly popular simply as they are far easier to operate and a lot less messy compared to the charcoal ones. But the coals that you need to use (lava rock or ceramic briquettes) can prove an expensive purchase initially but they do last for a considerably long time unlike charcoal.

    2. The actual cost of buying a charcoal barbecue over a gas one is much less. Remember with a charcoal one all you need to then purchase are the charcoals and starting fluid. Whilst with a gas one you need to get the coals (lava rock or ceramic briquettes) along with a gas cylinder.

    3. It actually takes time for a charcoal barbecue to be ready before you can start cooking on it, where as with a gas one you only have to wait a few minutes after the flame has been ignited. The problem with the charcoal one is that you need to first make sure that the charcoal is properly lit and then wait for the flames that appear to die down before you can actually start cooking.

    4. Another big advantage to be gained from owning a gas barbecue is that there are several different additional pieces of equipment that you can get for it. You will often find that most good quality gas patio barbecues come with a side burner already attached alongside the actual grill. With this, you can prepare sauces or other kinds of side dishes that are to be served with your main meal. Also, if you want to spend a little more money you can get smokers, rotisseries and pan roasters to go with your gas barbecue as well.

    5. Although we have shown some of the advantages and disadvantages regarding the different types of barbecues you can buy today. One thing that will not be different on either of these is the way in which the food tastes. In fact, you will find there is very little difference in the way the food tastes after it has been cooked on either a charcoal or gas barbecue.

So you can see from above it does not really matter which type of patio barbecues it is you choose to purchase. As long as you make sure that, it has been made using high quality steel and comes with a good warranty then you should be fine. Ideally look for one that has warranty that says you will get around 10 years of grilling from it.
