Because the wood has natural oils within it the help to protect it you find that you will never need to apply any kind of protective coating (varnish) to it. Plus over time as it ages the wood becomes much stronger and is far less likely to suffer from water damage or any kind of splitting as other woods do.
A lot of the garden furniture today, which is made using teak, the trees, is grown in a region known as Javanese. The companies who grow the wood particular for making furniture with have learnt how important it is to harvest it in an environmentally friendly way. As mentioned previously you do not need to either varnish or add any additional oils to teak wood. If you do however, you may actually cause it damage the wood may develop mildew and in some cases rather than having a beautiful color it can become somewhat irregular instead.
