When it is time to spruce up your kitchen, there are many factors that you will need to consider. A kitchen gets a lot of use each and every day. You need your kitchen to become a favorite room in your home---one in which family and friends can gather when you entertain. Kitchens come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny to grand, so no matter what kind of kitchen you have, here are some tips for making the most out of your space.

Update the Appliances: As with anything you do, your work is only as good as the tools you use. That is so true even in the kitchen. You may spend a fortune to reface kitchen cabinets, but if it's not done well, you'll always notice the problems. An old oven may work okay, but how many times has it proved unreliable when a cake comes out uneven or it burns cookies too fast? In addition, old appliances are not as energy efficient as newer kitchen appliances and they can really outdate your space. When you want to vamp up your kitchen space, consider spending a bit of money and updating your appliances first. Stainless steel appliances are very sleek and stylish and almost every manufacturer makes a line. If you are on a tight budget, then take a look at what you use the most and work from there. Your refrigerator and microwave may be the first ones that you will want to replace.

Paint and Texture: Wallpaper is mostly out. If you have old and worn wallpaper or ugly paint, then it is time to spruce up your kitchen walls. Texturing is quite popular and will give your home a trendy look in no time. In many cases, you can learn how to texture a wall yourself and you will never have to call in a professional. Also, look at the choice in paint colors. Choose colors that you can live with and that you love. Remember the rule with paint in the kitchen, though. This is a high traffic area, so go with paint that is at least eggshell or semi gloss sheen. This will make the walls easier to wipe clean when necessary.

Floors and Countertops: The next two things that will outdate your kitchen are floors and counters. The good news is that you don't have to spend a fortune to update. You can get great looking laminate for both places. If you spend a little more look at tile for the floors. Many homeowners love the look and durability of butcher block counters, too.
