If you spend a lot of time hard at work in the garage, then a garage workbench is a must have piece of furniture. These industrial workbenches make all of your jobs a little bit easier by giving you a dedicated, comfortable place to get your work done. The key is choosing the right workbench, whether you buy one readymade or whip one up yourself.

    How to Choose a Workbench

Workbenches come in tons of sizes and styles, so there is one that is the right fit for every person. They can be used for home improvement projects and crafts, like woodworking. These benches can be found at any hardware store and some arts and craft stores. Before you head to the shops consider these features of the different garage workbenches out there.

Table workbenches are heavy duty and built to last. They look like traditional tables, but they have metal tops, so you can do your word working without damaging the work surface. Some are all steel tables, and some have wooden legs.

Cabinet garage workbenches contain drawers or cabinets under the work surface, which come in handy for storing all of your materials. Some of these benches also have pegboard backing so you can hang those big tools that won't fit in the drawers.

Do you use power tools? Then a power bench is the one for you. These benches have as many as nine outlets and tough as nails power cord. Thanks to current protection measures, you can't overload these switches. Power benches are usually large - six to eight feet. Some also come with additional storage.

    How to Build a Workbench

If you don't see what you want in the list above, you can always build your own workbench so you get exactly what you have in mind. Building a bench is as easy as getting a kit. These kits come with everything you need, from directions to pre-cut materials ready to build the workbench of your dreams.

You don't have to choose a kit, however. If you are very handy, you can start from scratch and build your very own bench. You'll have to be able to accurately measure and cut all of your own materials, but you will be in the driver's seat for the finished product. Garage workbench plans can be found on the net, so print up the plans for your favorite bench and get cracking!
