Alli has been shown to reduce weight but there is also a downside which will be explained below.

First of all, alli is the OTC (over-the-counter) generic name that is used for orlistat which can also be obtained as a prescription in the form of Xenical. It is a fat blocker and prevents your body from absorbing all or most of the fat contained in the foods you eat. Its claims in aiding weight loss also has FDA backing.

It must be pointed out that you should not mistakenly believe that you can continue indulging in fatty foods and by swallowing an alli pill, all the effects will magically disappear. That sounds good but it does not work like that. It needs to be consumed together with a diet of low-fat meals.

The exact weight that was lost when consuming alli had been demonstrated to vary. One of the studies showed that 36% and 55% of participants had their body mass decrease by 5% or more, however, exactly how much of that mass was actually fat it is not known. And between 16% and 25% attained a body mass decrease of 10% or bigger. If alli was taken in combination with a calorie restricted diet, weight loss was expected to have been a lot more.

After having stopped taking alli, the subjects did regain an average of about one third of all the weight they had lost, but this is actually a typical experience of most dieters.

A big disadvantage of taking alli is the negative effect it can have on your bowel and digestive system. If you consume foods that have a high fat content, you will experience more side effects since more undigested fat will need to be discharged from your intestine which will result in loose stools, bowel problems, and flatulence.

This is particularly true when first using alli as the body isn't accustomed to the pill, yet. The manufacturer even gives a warning to users telling them that may need to visit the restroom frequently. They even propose that you put on dark pants and take an additional pair to work. However, the embarrassing effects could be decreased by just consuming low fat meals.

Although alli can increase / boost your total weight loss by as much / high as 50%, note that results will vary for each individual.

There is no such diet pill that magically makes you lose weight with you having to do absolutely no work, but alli pills are proven to be effective. If you are struggling to lose weight, it may be a good idea to see your doctor and find out if alli can aid you with your fat loss goals.
