    It is common sense that you can't expect to lose weight in 3 weeks what took you 3 years or more to put on, right?

    Well, for some they probably canbut it will only be temporary. Losing weight in a slow, steady manner is the healthiest way you can do it, and it's also the only way to keep it off for good.

    Losing weight is more than just a diet plan because those alone don't work. What you need is a change in lifestyle. The reason why many people have a hard time losing weight is because they don't want to accept the truth that there is no quick, fast, easy way to do it.

    You must change the lifestyle that's allowed the excess weight to creep on. And you must move more. I know, you cringe when you think about 'exercise'. But it doesn't have to be a task you dread and it doesn't have to be a time consuming ordeal. You just need to move. The more you do, the easier it becomes and believe it or not, you may actually come to look forward to it and truly miss it on those occasions you can't fit it in.

    A healthy way of losing weight will take time and normally, you will only lose a pound or two each week. Exercising while dieting will accelerate your weight loss. The combination of a healthy, sensible diet, balanced with all the food groups and 3-5 times a week for 30 minutes of exercise will show you that you don't need the latest fad diet making the rounds to get to your ideal weight.

    You don't even have to do drastic changes all at once. Start by making small changes that will make a huge difference if done cumulatively. For example, if you drink soda, switch to water. If you normally skip breakfast, try to eat breakfast at least 3 times a week. Eating breakfast really helps. Once you start doing that, you'll feel so much better that soon you will be eating breakfast everyday by choice.

    Refrain from eating too much fast food, and some of the overly processed foods that have very little nutritional value. Use whole grain bread instead of white bread. Little changes. Little by little, as you find out what healthy feels like, you will definitely be attracted to do more and more of it.

    Losing weight healthily does not entail cutting foods out completely, especially 'bad-for-you' foods. It's irrational to think that you will never eat another slice of cake, Thanksgiving stuffing, or Christmas candy. If you're watching what you eat 80% of the time, you can relax a bit 20% of the time.
