We all have heard of eczema and have seen it in people we know. What we may not be aware of is the severity of the symptoms these people suffer from. Eczema causes severe itching of the affected area. It persists even with creams like hydrocortisone, the typical agent used for eczema. However, with the discovery of organic coconut oil's ability to treat eczema, sufferers now have anpther option.

Coconut oil basically contains fatty acids which serve as an anti-inflammatory agent. Upon application over the affected area, coconut oil penetrates the surface immediately thereby reducing symptoms of eczema.

The organic coconut oil also prevents accumulation of bacteria on the skin resulting in prevention of infection. Topical creams for eczema abound in the market but what makes this oil different (or even at an advantage) is its ability to make the skin smooth and supple. This is on top of being a healthy alternative for over-the-counter drugs. When compared with creams bought in drug stores, the organic coconut oil offers immediate relief whereas topical creams may not show any sign of relief at all.

Eczema's appearance and/or demographic include the following:

    - Atopic Dermatitis - This kind is usually determined by one's genes. A person born to a family with a history of asthma or any other form of allergies may manifest with this kind of eczema.

    - Contact Dermatitis - This may be caused by agents in constant contact with the skin such as cosmetics, soap, detergents, and others.

    - Seborrheic dermatitis is common among people who may have oily skin.

    - Stasis dermatitis occurs in individuals who may have excessive fluid underneath the skin.

    - Neurodermatitis may be a result of irritants found on garments and/or accessories found near the skin.

    - Perioral Dermatitis - This may be caused by creams and/or cosmetics applied around the perioral or mouth region.

Eczema thrives on the irritants and allergens constantly used by the skin. Too much of these products may lead to a skin breakout. Examples are creams, soaps, fabric softeners, and/or perfumes.

Eczema is a skin condition both young and old people suffer from. To avoid acquiring this condition, it is best to keep the skin moisturized at all times. A few drops of organic coconut oil is all you need to keep bad bacteria from forming in your skin pores. During month when temperature drops down to zero, have a stock of organic coconut oil in your medicine cabinet to constantly nourish dry skin caused by severely low temperature.

Now that we know the useful effects of organic coconut oil, we can now free ourselves from prescription drugs and/or ointment to treat our skin problems. Aside from the coconut oil there are many other alternative medicines available in the market for our health needs. What differ coconut oil from these other alternative medicines is its flexibility. Organic coconut oil can be used not only as adjunct to skin care needs but can also be used for other many purposes. This oil is also a kitchen staple since it is used on several recipes. This may be the reason why the palm tree, the oil's main source, is also called "Tree of Life.
