There are many things which can stop you as a person from succeeding in life, but the biggest one of them all is procrastination. It is procrastination which can prevent a person from actually achieving their goals and put obstacles in their way. It is procrastination which can also make a person choose a particular path which will result in them not achieving what it was they first set out to do.

But how does some one know if they are a procrastinator or not? Below we provide you with you a few pointers that should help you to understand a little more about whether you procrastinate or not.

    1. A large number of procrastinators (around 20%) will soon identify that they are chronic procrastinator's and will know that it leads to them leading a particular kind of lifestyle. The lifestyle they lead will often intrude into all aspects of their life causing it to be very difficult to lead what is considered to be a normal life.

    2. For many procrastinators actually managing what time they have available to them in order to complete a certain task is not a problem. Rather they will find it more difficult to sit down and work how just how much time it is they need in order to complete the task in hand.

    3. There are some people who believe that a procrastinator is actually born with their problem and this is not so. For many the problem will evolve over the years and will be related to the kind of upbringing they have had as well as how they interact with others. For example if a child is brought up by parents who are very controlling then the likelihood of them becoming a procrastinator is greatly increased. Simply because they will not have the chance to learn how to deal with situations and problems that any normal child would have to do.

    4. For some procrastinators they will rely far more on other substances to help them avoid the effects that their procrastination is having on their lives. For quite a few they will turn to alcohol or other substances which can help to numb or block out the effects and causes of their procrastination. They may especially rely on these things at those times in their lives when they think things are really bad even when they are not.

    5. For quite a large number of people who procrastinate they will often use ways to distract themselves so that they can avoid doing those things that they don't like to do or they don't feel that they can do. Often they will do a task that they find easy to complete rather than going for the one they know they must do but which they see as far too difficult. This is because they feel that they do not have the right set of skills or abilities in order to achieve the required state of completion.

Yet for those who have identified that they do procrastinate there are certain things that they can do which can help them to make changes and fight procrastinating. Although it is important that when looking for ways to prevent yourself from procrastinating that the changes you make will take time to help you. A person can undergo cognitive behavioral with a trained therapist as a way of making the necessary changes in their lives as well as to understand better why the procrastinate.
