Hypnosis as Treatment for Anxiety Disorders

Hypnosis is a natural process that the average person experiences spontaneously about five times each day. These are time when you are watching a TV or movie, reading, are very involved in a project and don’t realize the time has flown by, daydreaming or fantasizing, or find yourself pulling into your driveway and not remembering turning down your street.
As a definition, hypnosis is an experience where your focus shifts from an outer awareness to a hyper focus inward. Hypnosis states are states where you bypass the critical mind (conscious mind) and are able to work directly with your subconscious mind. This shift can be measured in a person’s brainwaves.
A conscious, waking or outward focused state occurs in a Beta brainwave. Like gears of a car, this is our highest gear (13-40 oscillations cycles per second). In this state we accomplish daily tasks and are able to use the critical functions of our mind to analyze our environments. A hypnosis state occurs when a person shifts from a Beta brainwave to an Alpha and Theta brainwave (Alpha: 8-13 oscillation cycles per second, Theta: 4-7 oscillation cycles per second). In an Alpha brainwave you are relaxed and hyper alert inward. In the Theta brainwave a person experiences an increased drowsiness sensation as well somnambulism while remaining hyper-alert inward and relaxed. Delta brainwaves (0-4 oscillations per second) occur during sleep and are not present during a hypnosis state.
As a result of being in a hypnosis state and experiencing Alpha and Theta brainwaves, studies show people experience significantly less stress and anxiety, their immune system strengthens and peak performance capacity increases. Creativity increases in these brainwaves and people demonstrate a greater capacity for successful problem solving. Studies also show that twenty minutes of hypnosis can provide the equivalent rest and rejuvenation of 4-6 hours of sleep.
In addition to the anxiety elimination benefits associated with the Alpha and Theta brainwaves, hypnosis allows people to heal all physical, mental, and emotional contributing factors to the experience of anxiety. Through the process of hypnosis a person can balance themselves physiologically, heal and change unwanted or unhealthful patterns, adjust limiting beliefs, change unhealthful interpretations of events that trigger anxiety, balance emotions and build self-esteem, personal empowerment, and security. Hypnosis can help you eliminate anxiety triggers and any predispositions a person has to triggered into an anxiety response. Hypnosis can also help you change inner-self talk and any anxiety producing thought, idea, and behavior.
You can choose to work one on one with a Certified Hypnotherapist, join a hypnosis for anxiety treatment group, or participate in a self-guided self-hypnosis anxiety treatment audio program. It is important to choose the format that feels right to you as each of these formats are successful options.
When selecting an audio program, it is important to select a program that includes comprehensive self-hypnosis training, because all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. This training allows you to not only heal your anxiety permanently, but develop a life tool that you can continue to use confidently, on your own to create a life you love.
