So many dieting options - some good, some not so good, and so little help in finding the right one. There are diets that are honest and others that are just designed to make you feel good in order to get your money. So how do you sift through them all and find one that will work for you? As you consider which diet to try, remember this: Above all, it must be a diet that raises your metabolism rate. Without this key, you will not lose weight and keep it off.
Here's the biggest problem most people have with weight loss: They try some quick-fix method that starves the calories away. But soon after, as they return to their old eating patterns, the pounds start creeping back on. Why is this? What causes the yo-yo effect?
Traditional dieting works by basically starving yourself in an attempt to force your body to use its stores of fat to survive. This is probably the single most counterproductive thing you can do when attempting to lose weight. Dieting like this actually causes your body to prefer to burn muscle over fat, and causes some temporary weight loss in the form of water loss.
Consequently, in short order, the weight returns, and usually brings a few more pounds with it, as the person goes back to eating again. Many dieters feel a tremendous sense of failure at this point. Don't! It's not your fault! It's the diet: It's simply cannot keep pounds off because of what it does to the body.
The key to avoiding this is to look for a diet plan that helps you burn calories and increase your metabolism. With increased metabolism and a healthy amount of calories eaten each day, the body will now prefer to burn fat over muscle; this leads to the desired weight loss effect without damaging the dieter's body. I am sure that you can see why a diet that burns calories is far preferable to one that slows your metabolism and causes damage to your muscles.
The best way to approach weight loss is to take a holistic approach to losing weight. Exercising to burn calories, diet plans to guide your eating habits, and making sure that you don't slip back into old habits are all important parts of the weight loss process.
Through it all, remember not to rush the process. Yes, it's true that significant weight loss often occurs in less time than we might have thought, but big changes to the body cannot be instant and yet be healthy. You have to be patient with yourself.
So don't get in too much of a hurry. Be kind to yourself and to your body. Don't make yourself over-exercise or under-eat. In the long run, this will just harm the weight-loss process and probably even make the process take longer than it would have otherwise.
Remember, in the end, success depends on you. A good calorie burning diet plan can help tremendously; a comprehensive weight loss plan with the diet AND exercise guidelines are even better. But no matter which diet plan you choose to use, remember to burn calories, increase metabolism, and patience will see you free of all those excess pounds for good.
