Many factors affect personal success and self-esteem. One of those ranked most highly, however, is having a smile of which one can be proud. One of the compounds available to consumers is Directwhite gel. This gel comes in two formulas, each with a different strength of carbamide peroxide. Developed in an FDA-approved laboratory, this product is sold in 3-ml syringes. The weaker gel is 22 percent peroxide, and can be used for 1-3 hours daily. The 45 percent strength, however, should only be applied for 30 minutes each day.

Another whitening gel available is Durabrite gel. Available at a similar cost, these syringes are also available in 22 and 35 percent solutions of carbamide peroxide. This gel, like many others, is a pure compounded blend without any artificial filling agents.

Easy Comfort whitening Gel is probably one of the most easy to use formulas available. This product, designed to be utilized as a maintenance formula for persons who have already whitened their teeth, is designed to maintain the teeth's desired color. Only 5 minutes each day is required for applying and using this product. Persons who have gum disease or wear braces, however, should not use Easy Comfort.

One of the easiest solutions to use that is currently available is Easy Comfort whitening gel. This gel, intended to be used as a maintenance regimen for persons who have completed a whitening program, helps to keep those pearly whites bright. The gel is intended to be applied for only five minutes each day. The product does come with one warning, however; persons who have gum problems or wear braces should avoid using this product.

One other solution, Day-White, seems to whiten as effectively with a 4.5 hydrogen peroxide base as do other gels. However, it also contains fluoride, which slows down the whitening process. One other component of this compound is glycerin. This chemical appears to cause the most mouth sensitivity, according to some researchers, of any chemical used in bleaching compound formulas.

Many compounds are available on the market today, and it is difficult to make a choice between them. The Microsoft Health Network advises that each of these gels seem to be equally effective. Some may cause mouth sensitivity for certain individuals, and so should be avoided. The consensus seems to be that the best approach is to try a few gels, find the one that works for you, and avoid any that appear to cause mouth or gum sensitivity.
