If you have psoriasis on your scalp, you probably know what medicated shampoo works for you. Of course, you shouldn't use it every day. That could dry your scalp out and make it more itchy, which will make your psoriasis a little worse. The trick is to find a good balance - not too scaly and not too dry. Something that works for most is Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo and Conditioner.
#1 I didn't know it until I started looking for information on Paul Mitchell's tea tree products that there is a whole line of them, including soap. I've only tried the shampoo and conditioner so far but I'll be trying the other items in the line to see if they work as well.
#2 Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Special Shampoo was touted in a recent National Psoriasis Foundation newsletter in the "It Works For Me" section. The person using it had achieved a total clearing of scalp lesions for about a year.
#3 It hasn't worked all that well for me! To be fair, I haven't used it regularly. I've been using it on and off for two years when I'm not using coal tar shampoo. (Salicylic acid makes me itch worse than psoriasis ever did.)
#5 What I like about Tea Tree Special Shampoo is that it's very soothing to an irritated scalp. Both the shampoo and conditioner have a tingling effect that penetrates into the skin. The conditioner does a good job of keeping the hair soft and smooth - that's saying something, because I have coarse shoulder-length hair that has a mind of its own.
You can find the full line of Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree line at Real Salon Products. We have the best prices, cheaper than salons and other internet sellers.
Reluctant to buy unless you know it works? See if your hairstylist will shampoo you with Tea Tree Special Shampoo when you get your hair cut.
Another consumer wrote: "What doesn't work? The body wash my husband bought at Wal-Mart that had tea tree oil in it; it had perfumes in it that irritated my skin. The moral of that story: Be careful! Not every product claiming to have "tea tree oil" in it will be helpful, sometimes they just add the scent.
To make a long story short (too late!), Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo and Conditioner might not work for everyone, but it may work for you. Give it a whirl.
