For those of you who sell digital products via the internet you may want to read this very carefully because you are probably losing a fortune. Digital piracy is becoming an ever increasing problem if you deliver word documents, ebooks, PDF's, software, video's, and more. Illegal access to protected content is growing right along with the internet. If you are not protecting you digital assets than it is time you start.
Did you know that over 55% of internet users believe it is OK to share protected content. Since the internet is really the information superhighway many users have no idea how widespread digital piracy is. As the internet grows so does digital piracy to the point that it has now become a multi billion dollar business.
You are probably thinking to yourself that the majority of loss is with large companies like Microsoft or the record industry and to a certain extent you are correct. But, by not protecting digital assets internet marketers, writers, and software developers are taking a big hit and it is costing most more than they realize.
If you sell digital products than you know that most shopping carts have built in protection systems but what is protecting your files after that? What about the percentage of sales that you end up refunding? I can't count how many times someone has purchased an ebook from me, downloaded the file, and then asked for a refund just minutes later. There was no possible way that they could have read my book that fast. Wouldn't you consider that to be digital piracy? If I would have had digital download protection software I could have repossessed my files.
Take a look at what the impact of digital piracy may have on you. What if you sell an average of 100 ebooks each month at $37 each. That would be a total of $3,700 per month. If you end up refunding 8% of those purchases then you just had $296 basically stolen from you which adds up to over $3,500 per year. That is only the beginning because many more share your files with friends and family. Many more feel it is OK to share your files on forums. Then some might even resell your files.
You can stop worrying because there is now digital asset protection software available. There are couple of products that have the ability to completely protect you. When you start looking for a product to protect your files from digital pirates there are some features you are going to want to make sure they have.
Look for a product that allows you to protect unlimited files. The products that charge per file are just too pricey. You want to find products that allow you to immediately lock, disable, and repossess any stolen files. Some products now allow you to set expiry dates and trial periods. Last, but far from least, a product which allows you to track usage to prevent sharing.
The sooner you start protecting your digital products the sooner your income will start to grow. You will start to see more sales, less refunds, and more money in the bank! Wouldn't it be absolutely priceless to see the look on the face of one of your customers who refunded their product and then tried to use it.
