Laptop computers are one of the best inventions in the computer world. They are
great for the business person or student that is always on the go. So
what can we do to keep them in good working condition? Well, we can start by
keeping them clean inside and out. To do this we can follow a few easy steps that
should be done at least once a year or in the time frame the manufacturer
    requests.

When unknown particles enter into your computer it can be disastrous, cutting
the life of your laptop almost in half. This is because dust and other particles
will affect the fans that are needed to cool the laptop, causing them to
    overheat and hurt your laptop.

To clean your laptop all you will need is cotton balls or q-tips (any type of
cotton swap), a can of compressed air that can be purchased at any local store,
and a soft cotton cleaning cloth. Don't forget that you need to take your time
and don't rush through the process, you need to make sure you get all the dust
out of the computer so it will work like it did when you first got it.

To get started you should take your cotton cleaning cloth, which should be
damp and not soaking wet, and clean the case of the laptop. If you chose to use
a cleaning agent be sure it is a mild cleaner, don't use anything that is too
abrasive as this can hurt your laptop. Also, never spray cleaners directly on
to the laptop always spray the cloth first, this will keep any excess cleaner
    from entering the computer.

After cleaning the case move on to the cooling vents. To clean the fans you
will need that can of compressed air you purchased and be sure to grab a cotton
swab or two to wipe away any of the dust that may be then computer. You will
need to gently spray the air around the fans, be sure you are using another
cotton swab to hold the fans in place. Also, when you spray the fans try not
to let them spin as this could cause the fan to over spin.

Next you will need to clean around the I/O ports, which are the Input-Output
ports on the computer. These ports are used to link the CPU with any external
devices, such as your keyboard or display. Be sure you wipe away any excess
dust with a cotton swab. If you want to us compressed air you may, just be sure you
are keeping any and all dust away from the I/O ports.

Lastly, clean the display and the keyboard. Make sure you turn the laptop off
before you begin cleaning the display. To clean the display you may want to use
a pre-moistened wipe which can be purchased at any computer retail store. When
cleaning the keyboard spray some of the compressed air to get any dirt or dust
out of the keys. You may also want to look at the owner's manual for your
computer, this will let you know if you will be able to remove the keys for
    easier cleaning.

Keep your laptop clean so that you will be able to use it when you need to
most. To keep dust out of your laptop you may want to look into a laptop
carrying case, this will make it easier to move from one place to another and
will cut back on the dust. Keeping your laptop clean will help extend the life
    and use of your laptop.
