Your computer needs drivers to communicate with software, your printer, any internal or external devices, audio cards, video cards as well as network interface cards. When the driver is not functioning properly, the program associated with it will no longer function properly either. Printers stop working, software stops working, sound stops working and your video will stop working.
Sometimes when Windows updates it will cause a problem in a certain device. When it does, updating that driver usually fixes the problem for you. If a piece of software acts strangely or stops working all together, again updating that particular driver will usually eliminate the issue. Checking for updated drivers should be part of your routine maintenance regimen you perform on your computer. This ensures driver and program functionality.
Whether you are running an OEM computer such as a Dell of HP, or you purchased a in house built machine from the local computer guys, finding drivers can be as easy as going to the manufacturers website or as hard as trying to track down individual drivers for each piece of software, your printer, audio card, video card and network interface card. If you didnt save the disks that came with your programs then you will have to manually search online for those drivers.
There are also plenty of websites out there that help you locate the driver you need if you're having problems finding it. A simple search can turn up hundreds of driver locater sites, which may be a task in itself weeding through all of those sites. Remember to always check with the manufacturer first and go from there.
There is a new program on the market called PC Updater that does all of the work for you, in a short amount of time. This program has one of the most comprehensive databases of drivers available today. Why spend all that time manually searching for drivers and hoping you have found the right one, when you can be finished in a matter of minutes with PC Updater?
You can find out how to update drivers at the PC911 site. You can find out more about how to update drivers manually.
