    Cellular Phones

    Believe it or not, cell phones have a longer history then the radio. Cell phones started off in the 1920's and radios were first used in 1921. Some of the cell phone features were used in radios way back in the 1940s. Police used these radios.

    The mobile car phone was developed as the idea of the cellular phone in 1947. Bell Laboratories developed the idea or concept of the cellular phone. Cells for mobile phone stations were developed to. Russell Ohl developed a device that electrical energy was converted from light energy. A buzzing hornet sound came when trying to eavesdrop on a conversation and therefore teh name Green Hornet was given to the prototype.Taxicabs and police cars has a long history or two-way radios form Motorola. The year of 1973 was the invention of the actual cell phone. Martin Cooper and assisting inventers are given the credit. "radio telephone system" is what is was known as.

    On a New York City street to the amazement of the people walking, Cooper was the first person to make a call on the portable cell phone. The Motorola DynaTAC prototype was used. He made the call to Joel Engel of the AT&T Bell Lab. From this technology there was a shift from the workplace to the person. The birth of personal wireless communications from the vision of Cooper, was born.

    AMPS (Advanced Mobile System) was used and it introduced the first commercial network in Chicago in 1978. Analog as a name the mobile phone was known as. Various digital standards have come into play so there is a less desire for the analog mobile phone in North America.

    The public was introduces to the large and expensive cellphone in 1984 when it made its presence. Towers war built by the cooperation of AT&T and the FCC.
