The other day I was out of town for a relaxing day that includes plenty of shopping. I stopped at a restaurant and ordered a chili burger. This is my favorite food and I was really looking forward to eating it. I went to an unknown restaurant that happened to be in the area where I was working.
I love to eat chili burgers, and there is one chain restaurant in my area that does them better than anyone else. They make homemade green chili with all the spices to smother them with. I ordered a chili burger off the menu at this particular diner though and it wasn't at all what I was hoping for. The chili was from a can and while it tasted decent it was nothing to get excited about.
This is the type of scenario that makes a chain restaurant so appealing. You know exactly what you are going to get when you walk in the door. The menu, the portions, and the ingredients are all going to be the same. There is no guessing as to what you will end up with or surprises along the way.
People often have to travel to other locations where they may not be familiar with the restaurants in the area. It can be for personal fun or for business related needs that you are away from home. Eating is just something you will have to do at a restaurant when you are traveling. It can be difficult to know where to go to enjoy a quality meal. Many people will gravitate towards chain locations that they are familiar with the name of.
It isn't uncommon for people to tend to go for what they are familiar with. Having a good experience at a given chain restaurant means people will likely go there again and again. This can be to their local establishment a well as to ones all over the country. People often associate the logos and advertisements of a particular chain restaurant with something that is very satisfying for them.
This can really work to the advantage of the owner of such a restaurant. They don't have to prove themselves as a quality place as this has already been established for them. They will also have the right equipment to operate the business and training on the best practices to implement.
Yet being part of a chain restaurant can be detrimental at times too. If another business with the same name is struggling due to poor food, sanitation issues, or even the finding of a foreign object in the food it can adversely affect your particular location as well.
I personally love chain food restaurants though. I enjoy being able to order my meal and know exactly what it is that will be served to me. Sometimes I am willing to try new restaurants and some of them I really like. However, if I have my choice between an unknown location and a chain restaurant, the latter will win almost every time.
