    A tanning salon that didn't work out may be your business opportunity. There is an array of reasons why that business didn't work out for the previous owner. Your job is to evaluate what all those reasons are. Some of them such as poor customer service and poor equipment you can take care of. Others such as the location you may not be able to readily change.

    People love to go to tanning salons, but they have to be convenient. This means they are easy to access. Consider the location of the tanning salon before you commit to buying it. If it is out of the way and people have to drive a ways to reach it they may not want to get services there.

    They may be going somewhere else already though. You need to find out what your competition is. Are there three other tanning salons in town or ten? These numbers are going to be a big issue to consider. How are you going to offer something more than what the others have? How are you going to get their customers to step into your business and try it out?

    Tanning equipment is essential if you are going to have such a business. However, there are many types of tanning services. There are also many models offered of the various types. You need to be able to offer quality tanning areas or people won't be returning. Carefully evaluate what that tanning business has. Can you operate successfully with it? Can you afford to invest in new equipment if necessary?

    Your own financial situation is something to consider. Are you able to take a risk to make such a business work? Do you have the funding to invest so you can improve the image of it? You may need to add some new paint and fix up a couple of things. If the building is being leased you need to decide if you want that type of commitment or not.

    There needs to be plenty of time and money invested in advertising strategies. You need to be able to get the word out that this tanning salon is under new ownership. If customers had a bad experience there it can still be hard to get them through the door again. Are you willing to offer great incentives such as a free tanning session or a low introductory fee for the first month?

    You may have hit the jackpot when you find an affordable tanning salon that didn't work for someone else. Your ability to find out why it failed as well as to have the skills to do better is essential. As a tanning salon business, service is very important on all levels. Don't get yourself involved in the many pitfalls of this type of business.

    The good news though is that tanning salons are very popular business locations. People love to look great without having to spend a great deal of time in the sun. If you weigh the pros and cons of this type of business opportunity you just may discover it holds the key to your personal and financial freedom.
