Environmentally conscious drivers will have more hybrid car and hybrid truck options this year and next, as auto manufacturers continue to roll out new versions and models. Consumer demand for hybrid vehicles continues to increase, as consumers begin to understand and accept hybrid vehicles as a viable alternative.
Hybrid cars (and trucks) are designed to reduce emissions by having at least two seperate power sources. Basically, instead of relying on burning fuel for all its power, a hybrid vehicle typically uses both an energy storage system in addition to gasoline, thereby expending less gasoline and less emissions.
For example, hybrid cars have a rechargeable energy storage system that recaptures energy during standard vehicle movements. Specifically, this energy storage system might actually shut down the gasoline engine during idling, traffic stops, or braking. Without getting into mechanical particulars, suffice it to say hybrid vehicles offer greater fuel economy, particularly for those who drive in heavy city traffic.
Here's a brief list of 2008 hybrid car models:
Midsize Hybrid Vehicles:
Chevrolet will introduce a hybrid model of the Malibu later this year as a 2009 model. Also expect to see hybrid models of the Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, and the Saturn AURA in Saturn's Green Line.
New SUV's Hit The 2008 Hybrid Market:
Expect Saturn to roll out the VUE as the newest member of their Green Line, offering half the emissions of their regular model. Also with new models will be the Chevy Equinox, Toyota Prius, and Toyota Sienna.
Hybrid Full Size Trucks and Hybrid Pickups:
General Motors introduces two new hybrid pickup truck options as 2009 models - the Chevy Silverado and the GMC Sierra.
What Else Is New In The Hybrid Car World:
The very first hybrid car from China debuts in 2008. It is a midsize car, the Roewe 750. A version of the UK's Rover 75, the Roewe 750 is manufactured by China's SAIE auto group.
Expect to see even more hybrid car and hybrid truck model introductions as we move into the 2009 and 2010 model years. The hybrid car and truck market is ever expanding, and auto manufacturers are more than happy to meet the demand.
