Benefits Of Lotus Flower Tattoos - Lotus flower tattoos are very popular and one of the reasons behind their popularity is the flexibility of their design. They can be placed almost anywhere on the body and still look great. Many women like getting lotus flower on the tops of their feet and the lower back. Guys typically like to place them on their arms, calf muscle or upper back. They are typically done in very brilliant and strong colors making them look great from a distance and close up. The detail and color of these great tattoo designs is a natural winner. They can be sized to fit just about anywhere. If you are looking for a small tattoo to get started then a lotus flower by itself will work great. However, if you are looking for something bigger like a full back piece then you can easily enhance the tattoo with water in the background or add a koi fish to it. No matter what size or location you choose this great tattoo design is full of symbolism and meaning which makes it a great choice.

The Lotus Flower In Tattoo Design - In the realm of tattoos of course the symbolism is somewhat dependent on the person that got the tattoo. Each person that gets a tattoo can ascribe their own personal meaning and symbolism to the tattoo. They typically have some reason that they were drawn to a particular design and therefore the meaning or symbolism behind a tattoo is very personal to some extent. However, the lotus flower is one of those tattoo designs that has a long history as a symbol in art and religion and this carries over into the world of tattoo design.

You might not know this already but lotus flower typically grow in the water. In fact they commonly grow in ponds or areas of still and slow moving water. They start their life off way down at the bottom of the watter in the muck and mud. Then as the flower grows and develops into a bud the vine starts to grow upwards and the bud begins it's journey towards the surface of the water. The bud starts off pointing downwards and then as it grows it points up and reaches for the sunlight at the surface of the water. Once the bud peaks out over the surface of the water it starts to unfold itself to reveal a beautiful blossom or flower. In India both people that are Hindu and Buddhist see the journey of the lotus flower as symbolic for the soul's journey to enlightenment. So there is a strong religious association with lotus flowers. This symbol has been carried over into the area of tattoo design of course and the tattoo is a symbol for perfection, enlightenment and beauty.

Additions To A Lotus Flower Tattoo - If you are thinking about getting a rather large lotus flower tattoo design then you might want to add tot he design carefully to give it some more intricacy and detail. However, you want to choose your additions are fully to make sure you stay with the theme of the design. For example a beautiful lotus tattoo could be ruined with some bio mechanical or skull design. Typically additions that work well are water as a background element. You can also add Koi or Carp fish to the design since lotus flowers are often grown in koi ponds and can frequently be seen together outside of temples throughout Japan. You can also include the lilly and other vines to add some more intricacy to the design. You could also add some other flowers to the design such as peonies or cherry blossoms which could both work well with the design and theme.

The important thing to remember is to take your time and don't rush the process of getting a tattoo. Especially take you time thinking about the design and working with a professional tattoo artist to help make your ideas into a reality. Not matter what you choose you really can't go wrong with a lotus flower tattoo. The beauty of this tattoo and the symbolism behind it make for a winer every time.
